On the Road to Continuous Improvement: GM Design Thinking Case Study

Sally Vlietstra leads General Motors’ Center of Learning team as its Senior Manager. In her role, she is responsible for training GM’s Field team and network of 4000+ U.S. dealers, ensuring team members have the skills to be successful in their chosen careers. Her team employs tools such as Design Thinking and robust data analytics to ensure learning solutions are relevant and performance improvement-based.
Vlietstra also leads GM’s Global Learning Network (GLN) to advance learning across the global dealer network. The GLN focuses on improving the impact of GM dealer learning across the globe while gaining efficiencies of scale.
Her team has been recognized as a Training Top 125 winner in 2017. In addition, Chief Learning Officer recognized the GLN with a gold medal in the Business Partnership category in 2018. Sally has held various roles in GM’s sales service and marketing organization throughout her career. She received her undergraduate degree from Hope College, Holland MI, and her MBA from Northwood University, Midland MI.
